Army-Navy Football Game Event for 2020

Posted: 12/3/2020

The bad news first:

Your Chapter President, Joe and I had hoped to put together our normal in-person Army-Navy Football event this year jointly with our West Point counterparts, but given the latest pandemic data and the state of lockdowns for in-person dining across Michigan, it’s not meant to be..

The good news:

We reached out to our West Point counterparts, and we will continue the tradition via Zoom. Login details should have been sent to your registered class e-mail. Please e-mail us at USNA.AA.Detroit.Chapter@gmail.com if you did not receive the Zoom login information.

We’ve taken this opportunity to purchase premium access to Zoom and remove any time limitations. Expect us to set up events in the future, including some sort of virtual “happy hour” or similar concept to keep our Chapter communications flowing. If anyone has any good ideas for guest speakers for these events, please contact the chapter leadership via e-mail, Facebook, or LinkedIn.

A few notes:

  • To make things easier, pre-registration for the Zoom Link is not required. You’re free to forward this e-mail to other Alumni (even those outside the state), relatives, and/or friends. Please exercise discretion to share with appropriate fans who you deem appropriate to join us.
    • Rule of Thumb: If you wouldn’t bring them to an in-person event, please don’t forward this Zoom invite to them.
  • Leadership of both Alumni groups will discuss an appropriate method of passing the Pickle Jar after the game is over, likely shared with you all via Facebook Live.
  • Several Blue and Gold Officers have noted that they will be attending (via Zoom) Academy Nomination Board proceedings for several Congressmen occurring on Game Day.
    • To my knowledge, everyone I’ve spoken to so far had said that the meetings are scheduled to end around 3:30 PM EST (which is kickoff time).
    • Expect these folks to be late-comers to the event!
  • The Zoom Meeting will open one hour prior to kickoff. We thought it might be fun to bring your favorite Army-Navy Week story to share, whether it’s from previous games themselves or (better yet) your favorite prank story from Mother B or on the Yard. We’re looking forward to hearing them!

… and, of course, GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!
